Rocklabs is looking for an experienced Controls Engineer to join our Auckland-based team and help deliver innovative automation and advanced machinery solutions for customers around the world.
This is a hands-on role where you'll take engineering concepts from design through to commissioning, working alongside mechanical, electrical and project engineering teams to develop safe, reliable and high-performing automated equipment.
What you'll be doing
You'll be involved across the full project lifecycle, including:
- Designing electrical and control systems and developing schematics using EPlan or similar tools
- Developing PLC, HMI, servo, SCADA, robotics and vision software
- Programming platforms such as Rockwell Studio 5000, Siemens Step 7 and GE Proficy
- Setting up and debugging control systems, networks, drives and safety systems
- Working with mechanical and project engineers to develop integrated automation solutions
- Supporting equipment build, testing and commissioning in our Auckland facility and at customer sites
- Working with customers and contractors to understand requirements and deliver practical solutions
- Preparing technical documentation, manuals and project records
- Contributing to continuous improvement of our engineering standards and systems
You'll also have the opportunity to travel, both within New Zealand and internationally, to support commissioning and customer projects.
What you'll bring
We're looking for a Controls Engineer who enjoys solving problems, getting hands-on and seeing their designs become real working machinery.
You'll ideally have:
- A relevant tertiary engineering qualification or Electrical Trade qualification
- At least 2 years' experience in industrial automation or Controls Engineering, preferably within a manufacturing environment
- Experience developing electrical control solutions from a project or sales brief
- Strong PLC and HMI programming experience
- An understanding of industrial machinery, electrical systems and machine safety
- Strong computer literacy, including networking and virtual machine environments
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with customers, contractors and engineering teams
- A full New Zealand driver's licence and the right to live and work permanently in New Zealand
Full New Zealand Electrical Registration with NZEWRB is preferred.
