Are you a qualified Fitter who enjoys building things that are more than just the sum of their parts?
Scott Technology is looking for a Fitter / Machine Builder to join our Fitting Shop team. This is a hands-on opportunity to build complex automation and robotic equipment that is used by customers around the world.
You'll take components from drawings through to finished assemblies, working alongside experienced tradespeople and engineering teams to build, test and commission innovative machinery.
What you'll be doing
As a Fitter / Machine Builder, you'll be responsible for manufacturing and assembling components and equipment to a high standard.
Your day-to-day work will include:
- Building and assembling automated machinery and mechanical systems
- Working from engineering drawings, understanding tolerances, fits, datums and mechanical setups
- Operating manual and CNC machine tools to support fitting and assembly work
- Testing and troubleshooting assembled equipment
- Using practical problem-solving techniques such as pre-checks and dry fits
- Working closely with engineering and workshop teams to keep projects moving
- Identifying ways to improve efficiency, reduce rework and improve build processes
- Supporting the commissioning of Scott equipment
- Maintaining high standards of quality, safety and workmanship
- Mentoring apprentices and sharing your knowledge with others
There may also be opportunities to travel within New Zealand and internationally to support equipment installation and commissioning.
What you'll bring
We're looking for a skilled tradesperson who takes pride in their work and enjoys solving practical engineering challenges.
You'll ideally have:
- A relevant mechanical trade qualification
- Experience in fitting, machine building or mechanical assembly
- The ability to read and work from engineering drawings
- A good understanding of mechanical setups, tolerances, fits and datums
- Experience using manual and/or CNC machine tools
- Good problem-solving skills and a practical, can-do approach
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Good communication and computer skills
- A strong focus on safety and quality
- The ability and willingness to mentor and support less experienced team members
