This is more than just a job—it's an opportunity to earn while you learn, working alongside experienced tradespeople while completing your New Zealand Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 3) through a structured training programme.

If you're keen to develop practical skills, work on world-class automation and robotic equipment, and be part of a supportive team, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

As a Machine Builder Trainee, you'll learn the skills required to assemble, fit, and test industrial machinery while working towards your Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification.

Working alongside experienced Mechanical Fitters and Team Leaders, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience building machines from technical drawings and progressing towards independently completing standard machine builds.

No two days are the same, and every day is an opportunity to learn.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll be involved in:

  • Building and assembling machines, components and sub-assemblies
  • Reading engineering drawings and following build instructions
  • Using a variety of hand tools, power tools and precision measuring equipment
  • Learning mechanical fitting techniques including alignment, fastening and basic testing
  • Completing quality checks and maintaining accurate documentation
  • Working safely while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives
  • Participating in a structured training programme and completing your engineering qualification

About You

We're looking for someone with a positive attitude and a genuine interest in engineering.

You'll ideally have:

  • A strong mechanical aptitude and enjoy hands-on work
  • A willingness to learn and develop new skills
  • Great attention to detail
  • A proactive approach and strong work ethic
  • The ability to work well as part of a team
  • Good communication skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • A Full New Zealand Driver Licence (preferred)
  • The legal right to work in New Zealand

Previous workshop, manufacturing or mechanical experience is an advantage but not essential—we'll provide the training and support you need to succeed.

What's in it for You?

At Scott Technology, we're committed to helping our people build rewarding careers.

You'll enjoy:

  • Earn while you learn with a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification
  • Structured mentoring from experienced tradespeople
  • Career development opportunities within a global engineering company
  • Hands-on experience building world-class automation equipment
  • A supportive, safety-focused team culture
  • Ongoing training and professional development
  • The opportunity to work on innovative projects with leading technology
