We’re seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer who can translate strong concepts into practical, manufacturable solutions, supporting the process from initial design through to commissioning with clarity, accuracy, and pace. If you enjoy solving real engineering problems, reducing rework through thoughtful design, and working with a team that values quality, efficiency, and high standards, you’ll fit in well.
Key responsibilities include:
- Using Solidworks to convert and deliver design briefs / project objectives into detailed designs and working drawings.
- Managing (as required) the work of assigned Design Engineers and Graduate Engineers.
- Providing technical expertise to our mechanical design team.
- Setting up and testing mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic systems at any Scott site or customer site if required.
- Liaising with the workshop and contractors during the construction of any equipment designed to ensure smooth and trouble-free manufacture.
- Maintaining effective records and documentation.
- Certifying all technical documentation pertaining to all projects.
To be a great match for this role:
- Bachelors/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (or a related discipline), or equivalent practical, trade-based experience supported by proven on-the-job capability.
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience in machine design/Automation.
- An understanding of electrical control systems including the suitable applications for PLCs, HMIs, Servos, VFDs, Robotics and Vision etc.
- The ability to design, document (in Solidworks and AutoCAD) and commission Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems specific to the automation industry (essential).
- The ability to make and explain sound decisions.
- Strong people management ability.
- Great communication upward and downward in the company and with customers.
- Flexibility to travel domestically and internationally.
- The ability to work in New Zealand.
