Scott Technology is looking for motivated and hands-on people to join our team as Apprentice Fitter Machinists.

This is an opportunity to earn while you learn, gain a recognised trade qualification, develop practical engineering skills and work on innovative automation and robotics solutions used by some of the world’s biggest companies.

What will you be doing?

As an Apprentice Fitter Machinist, you'll learn from experienced tradespeople while gaining hands-on experience in our workshop and on real engineering projects.

You'll develop skills in areas such as:

  • Manufacturing and machining components
  • Mechanical fitting and assembly
  • Reading and working from engineering drawings
  • Producing accurate, high-quality work
  • Using workshop equipment and manufacturing processes
  • Problem solving and finding practical solutions
  • Working safely and as part of a team
  • Understanding quality and continuous improvement

You'll work alongside qualified tradespeople and engineering teams, gradually building your knowledge, confidence and capability throughout your apprenticeship.

Earn a recognised qualification while you learn

Your apprenticeship will combine on-the-job experience with formal training, working towards a National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 4) through the Scott Technology apprenticeship programme and Competenz.

You'll attend training classes, complete unit standards and examinations, and receive support throughout your apprenticeship.

You don't need to know everything already. We're looking for potential, attitude and a willingness to learn.

What you'll need

Applicants should have:

  • Completed at least three years of secondary education
  • NCEA Level 1 in English and Maths
  • NCEA Level 1 in Science, Graphics and Technology is ideal but not essential
  • Pre Trade in Mechanical Engineering Level 3 is ideal but not essential for the right candidate
